Power Protection
Don't forget to have some power filtering on the power point that the computer is plugged into. Power problems are one of the biggest causes of lost data and computer failure. Power Problems can occur as one big hit, for example a lightning strike, or little irregularities over a long period of time.
A surge protected power board is the minimum recommended protection.
Another option is a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) it has inbuilt surge protection and a backup battery that can keep your computer running through a short power outage (possibly a three to five minutes, depending on computer configuration and UPS rating). This can get you through a few second power outage without losing what you're working on, if the power outage is longer, it gives you a chance to save your work and shut the computer down.
